Twyla Dill

When Twyla was nineteen, she moved to Istanbul, Turkey—a city where every street hums with history and beauty. One afternoon, her friend’s mother placed a tiny crochet hook in her hand and showed her how to make lace. That moment changed everything.

What began as curiosity became obsession, then devotion. Lace became her language. She started weaving stories into delicate threads—at first adorning leather and wooden circles, and eventually transforming those same patterns into fine jewelry.

Today, each piece she creates begins with a 0.55mm crochet hook and a single strand of cotton thread. Twyla first crochets lace by hand, then captures every loop, knot, and texture in cast metal—preserving the softness of thread in a material meant to last generations. What was once fleeting becomes timeless, lace captured in time that will last many lifetimes.

Twyla’s designs are born from travel, love, and the people who inspire me. They carry the spirit of adventure, the touch of handmade craft, and the strength of metal. Every curve and stitch is a celebration of individuality—of what makes you you.

Designer Q+A:

#1. Q: Can you share a motto, mantra, quote or verse that serves as a continual source of inspiration for you?

A: As long as you don’t give up, you’ll get where you want to be. I don’t know who said it, or if it was one person in particular but it reminds me that with consistent work and small changes, so much is possible!

#2. Q: Why is having a positive impact through jewelry important to you?

A: When I started my business, I just wanted to make crochet earrings. As I’ve grown and moved into fine jewelry over the last 11 years, I’ve come to realize how much harm there can be with mining of gemstones and metals. I know nothing is perfect, but I’m committed to choosing options that have the least negative human and environmental impact and as I grow and am able to, I will continue to improve my sourcing and practices.

My goal with my jewelry is to bring more beauty into the world. I can’t claim to be making the world a more beautiful place if people and the environment are hurt in the process.

#3. Q: What’s your favorite gemstone and why? (If it’s too hard to pick one, what are your top 3?!)

A: I’m absolutely head over heels in love with tsavorite and grossular garnets. The vibrant greens make me swoon and there are currently multiple gems that I’m manifesting for myself from Anza Gems.
